Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To determine the extent of off-label drug use of proton pump inhibitors for injection in a 3A grade general hospital’s hospitalized patients in 2014.
METHODS Prescriptions contains proton pump inhibitors for injection were collected from 2014 for a statistical analysis regarding the general information of hospitalized patients, the status of drug use and the off-label use status.
RESULTS A total of 3 271 medical advices were extracted and analyzed, with incidence rates of off-label drug use accounting for 90.74%, covering all 30 departments. The main categories of off-label drug use was indication. The rates of off-label drug use about lansoprazole, esomeprazole, omeprazole, pantoprazole, omeprazole account for 98.72%, 99.30%, 10.67%, 94.91%, 100%.
CONCLUSION Proton pump inhibitors is widely used in the hospital, and off-label drug use of proton pump inhibitors is commonly-seen. Control measures should be adopted to regulate the specification of drug use behavior to pronote clinical rational drug use.
