Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To discuss the characteristics and general pattern of drug-induced deafness. METHODS A total of 81 drug-induced deafness cases reported in internal medical journals published from 1994 to 2011 were collected by retrieving China Hospital Digital Library and analyzed statistically. RESULTS Cause of deafness had 12 kinds of drugs. To 43 drugs, the routes of administration were intravenous injection, intramuscular injection, oral administration and so on. Combination of medication was involved in 28 cases, medication alone were 53 cases. The deafness was predominantly caused by anti-infective drugs and antipyretic analgesic drugs. Hearing recovered in 46 cases, 28 cases resulted in permanent deafness, the results were unknown in 7 cases. CONCLUSION Clinical attention should be paid to drug-induced deafness, prevention and early discovery is the key to avoid the hearing loss.
