Abstract: OBJECTIVE To observe the effects of Shenyuqingxuan ointment on dizziness. METHODS Eighty patients with various kinds of dizziness were treated mainly using Shenyuqingxuan ointment. Additional herbal medicines were added according to the theories of traditional Chinese medicine, which includes nourishing yin and suppressing the excessive yang, enriching water to nourish wood, setting out the glare, with combination of activating blood and dissolving stasis. Sixty-five cases of dizziness were treated with western medicine as control. RESULTS In Shenyuqingxuan ointment treatment group, 48 patients were clinically cured and 71 patients were improved. The overall effective rate was 88.8%. Whereas in control group, the overall effective rate was 75.4%, which was composed of 34 cured and 15 improved cases. Statistically, the effects of Shenyuqingxuan ointment on dizziness was superior to the western medicine (P<0.05). The curative effect was especially better on the dizziness of hepatic and renal yin deficiency, with 0.5-2 years’ disease history and 2 courses of treatment. CONCLUSION Shenyuqingxuan ointment has a good anti-vertigo effect.
