Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To study the effects of curcumin solid dispersion on the oxidative stress in diabetic rats. METHODS The curcumin solid dispersion was prepared with excipient of polyvinylpyrrolidone. Diabetic rats that were induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotacin were randomly divided into five groups: diabetes mellitus (MD) group, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) group, curcumin (CU) group, low dosage of curcumin solid dispersion (LSD) group, high dosage of curcumin solid dispersion (HSD) group. Six weeks after initiating treatment, the superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and malondialdehtyde (MDA) were examined. RESULTS The diabetic rats compared with control group, the index of kidney increased significantly, the antioxidant capability of kidney decreased significantly; the rats that fed with curcumin solid dispersion compared with diabetic rats, the activity of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase increased significantly, the content of malondialchehyche decreased significantly. CONCLUSION The curcumin solid dispersion can increase the antioxidant capability of diabetic rats and decrease the oxidantive stress.
