Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To investigate the influence of
Ginkgo biloba leaf extract (GBLE) on the function of vascular endothelial cell of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in acute exacerbation stage(AECOPD). METHODS Sixty patients with AECOPD were randomly divided into two groups: conventional treatment (CT) group and GBLE treatment (GBLE) group, each group consisted of 30 cases, and 30 healthy adults served as control group. All AECOPD patients were given conventional treatment, while for the patients in GBLE group, 20 mL GBLE were given through intravenous drip everyday in addition for 2 weeks. The levels of the serum nitric oxide(NO), thrombomodulin (TM) and von Willebrand factor (vWF) in the blood samples were determined with enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RESULTS The level of NO and TM were decreased significantly in AECOPD patients compared with control group before treatment(
P<0.01). And the level of vWF was elevated significantly in AECOPD patients compared with control group before treatment(
P<0.01). After intervention, the level of NO and TM in both treatment groups were significantly elevated(
P<0.01), and the elevation in GBLE group was more prominent than CT group(
P<0.01). The level of vWF in both treatment groups was significantly decreased(P<0.01), and the decrease in GBLE group was more prominent than CT group(
P<0.01). CONCLUSION GBLE has the effect on improving endothelial function in patients with AECOPD, the medicine may be used to prevent thrombotic diseases.
