Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To explore the research hotspots related to the ageing-friendliness of drug package inserts from an international perspective and to provide practical references for reforming drug package inserts for the elderly in China.
METHODS A comprehensive literature search was conducted in the PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection databases for academic publications from 2000 to 2024. Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA) topic modeling had been a process by which the intensity of topics was measured and hot topics were identified.
RESULTS The primary research hotspots were categorized into 4 themes: medication information communication, medication safety warnings, adverse reaction monitoring and readability and evaluation. These themes systematically reflect the major barriers faced by elderly patients in acquiring, understanding and utilizing pharmaceutical information. The findings will offer theoretical guidance and practical directions for enhancing the accessibility and usability of drug package inserts.
CONCLUSION The future optimisation direction of drug instructions in China could thus be centred on multimodal information acquisition, individualised risk management, adverse reaction monitoring, and assessment of readability criteria. The promotion of such measures will ensure the development of drug package inserts in the direction of greater intelligence, humanisation and precision.
