Abstract:
Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) have received extensive attention in clinical diagnosis and drug delivery due to their diversified functions, large specific surface area, controllable pore size, and high porosity. However, MOFs still have many shortcomings, such as low water solubility, poor dispersion, short blood circulation time, and burst release effect. In order to improve the above shortcomings, polyethylene glycol(PEG) is commonly used to modify the surface of MOFs to improve their physical and chemical properties to varying degrees. This article reviewed the research advances of the PEGylated MOFs drug delivery system, including the methods of PEGylation of MOFs, the existing forms of PEG on the surface of MOFs, and the practical application of the PEGylated MOFs drug delivery system in the domain of traditional Chinese medicine and chemical medicine. This article analyzed the role and deficiencies of PEG modification in the research of MOFs-based drug delivery systems used in traditional Chinese medicine and chemical medicine, in order to provide some references for related researches on PEGylated MOFs drug delivery systems.
