Abstract: OBJECTIVE To summarize and analyze the medication rules and characteristics of Maonan medicine in the treatment of common disease in orthopedics and traumatology. METHODS Through consulting ancient books, literature retrieval, folk visits to collect prescriptions on the treatment of bone injuries by Maonan medicine. The Excel 2016, SPSS 21.0 and Clementine 12 Apriori templates was used, to summary frequency, analyze the drug clustering and association rules. RESULTS The 204 prescriptions (including single prescriptions) of Maonan medicine used for orthopedic were collected, including 107 prescriptions for internal use and 97 prescriptions for external use. The main drugs were detumescence and pain relief drugs, blood circulation and stasis removing drugs, wind and dampness removing drugs; most of them were warm and hot drugs; the most common drugs were pungent and bitter in the five flavors; the three common meridian tropism were liver, spleen and kidney. “Four Medicine Kings” and “Two Miraculous Medicines” were mainly woody herbs and rattan plants. “Four Medicine Kings” were mainly used for promoting blood circulation, and were commonly used for internal use. “Two Miraculous Medicines” were good at anti-inflammatory and detoxifying, and could be used for internal and external use. Eight core combinations of drugs were extracted by cluster analysis. Association rule analysis was based on confidence and promotion. Seventeen groups of effective combination of 2 drugs and 5 groups of effective combination of 3 drugs were found. CONCLUSION The Maonan medicine takes Sanxuefei, Drynaria and Angelica as the core drugs, and uses them both internally and externally to treat orthopedics and traumatology. However, at present, there are few studies on Maonan medicine, which need further exploration.
