Abstract: Epimedii Folium is a commonly used medicine in the treatment of male infertility, impotence and semen abnormalities. Ancient literature records that Epimedii Folium can lead to male infertility, it is necessary to make a textual research on it. In ancient literature, the reason of male infertility caused by Epimedii Folium is due to long-term use, or improper selection of population and indication, so it can be defined as toxic reaction. Origin, variety and harvest time can affect the quality of Epimedii Folium. It can be confirmed that Epimedium sagittatum(sieb.et Zucc.) Maxim. is a toxic variety. Processing of Epimedii Folium can lead to changes in chemical composition, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Therefore, processing is also one of the important factors to be considered.
