    Vancomycin-Induced Neutropenia- One case report

    • Objective:To report a case of vancomycin-induced neutropenia and provide a review of the literature. METHODS : A 72-year-old man with brain abscess complicated by septicemia received IV infusion of 0. 5 g,thrice daily. After further 15 days, the routine blood testing revealed following values: WBC count1.6×10-9 L-1, neutrophilSpercentage:S44.9% and neutrophil count0.7×10-9 L-1. Results: The blood testing normalized after vancomycin was discontinuation in three days later. Conclusion: Our physicians should pay attention to the adverse effect of vancomycin-induced neutropenia. Patients should have periodic assessment of white blood cell and neutrophil counts with consideration during vancomycin therapy.
