    Influence of Wenshen Tiaojing Decoction on Endocrine and Lipid Metabolism of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Patients

    • OBJECTIVE To observe the effect of Wenshen tiaojing Decoction on the endocrine and lipid metabolism of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) patients. METHODS Ninety PCOS patients were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group(n=45). The treatment group was given Wenshen tiaojing decoction. The control group was treated with metformin. Both groups were treated for 2 months. The changes before and after the treatment in average body mass index (BMI), fasting blood-glucose, 2 hour postprandial blood glucose, fasting insulin, postprandial 2 h insulin, leptin, adiponectin, HOMA-IR, blood lipid, sex hormone and TCM syndrome grade were compared. RESULTS Through the 2 months treatment, The effect of Wenshen tiaojing Decoction on the decrease of the BMI, adjustion sex hormone and most of the lipid metabolism index (except for HDL-C and Apo A), and the reduction of the TCM symptom score were better than that of metformin, significantly(P<0.05). The reduction of blood glucose and insulin resistance in both groups were similar. CONSLUSION Wenshen tiaojing Decoction could lower BMI of the obese patients, improve abnormal lipid metabolism, adjust sex hormone and lower the TCM syndrome scores of PCOS patients.
