Experimental Study on Anti-diarrheal Activity of Pulp of Mume Fructus Extraction

    • OBJECTIVE To study the anti-diarrheal activity of Pulp of Mume Fructus extraction. METHODS Anti-diarrheal activity of Mume Fructus extraction was evaluated using castor oil-induced diarrhea, charcoal meal transit and castor oil-induced enteropooling in different group mice or rats. RESULTS Mume Fructus extraction and its preliminary purified extraction both possessed anti-diarrheal property in mice and the latter was superior to the former. Although the preliminary purified extraction did not decreased the volume of castor oil-induced intestinal fluid secretion, it caused a dose-dependent decrease of gastrointestinal transit (P<0.05). CONCLUSION The findings of this study indicate that Mume Fructus extraction possesses anti-diarrhoeal property that related with decreasing gastrointestinal transit.
