OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of intravenous immunoglobulin(IVIG) on the treatment of the steroid-resistance or relapsing Hashimoto’s encephalopathy. METHODS a case report was presented along with a review of the literature in IVIG therapy for the Hashimoto’s encephalopathy. RESULTS A case of relapsing Hashimoto’s encephalopathy was improved with IVIG therapy. There were only 21 steroid-resistance or relapsing Hashimoto’s encephalopathy patients had been treated with IVIG in the literature and 11 patients had good prognosis with IVIG therapy. CONCLUSION IVIG can be considered as rescue therapy in the steroid-resistant or relapsing Hashimoto’s encephalopathy.
