Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the chemical constituents from the water extract of Alpinia oxyphylla Miq.. METHODS The chemical constituents were isolated by solvent and Sephadex LH-20 methods. The structures were identified on the basis of chemical methods and spectroscopic evidence. RESULTS Five compounds were identified as protocatechuic aldehyde(1), protocatechuic acid(2), p-coumaric acid(3), (-)-epicatechin(4), (+)-catechin(5). CONCLUSION Compounds 1, 3 and 4 are obtained for the first time from this genus and compound 5 is obtained for the first time from this species.
