Effect and Safety of Quetiapine Combined with Paroxetine for the Treatment of Patients with Depression

OBJECTIVE To compare the effect and safety of quetiapine combined with paroxetine for the treatment of patients with depression. METHODS Articles about treatment with quetiapine combined paroxetine versus paroxetine for depression were searched in PubMed, CNKI, VIP, Wanfang and China academic dissertation, then Meta analysis was performed by Rev Man 5.0. RESULTS Thirteen studies were included (n=934). The analysis indicated that there were significant differences between the two groups in clinical cure rate and clinical efficacy rate(P<0.05). There were no significant differences in the adverse event by subgroup analysis, but the group of quetiapine combined paroxetine had more adverse events. CONCLUSION Quetiapine has obviously curative effect in treating depression, specially for those patients with treatment-resistant depression.
