Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect and safety of Saccharomyces boulardii treating on children with acute diarrhea. METHODS All of 120 patients with acute diarrhea were randomly divided into 2 groups with 60 patients in each group, the patients in the control group were treated with Live Combined Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus and Enterococcus Powder and dioctahedral smectite, while the patients in the treatment group were treated with Saccharomyces boulardii to observe the effects. RESULTS The effects in the two groups were equivalent (P>0.05) in the follow indexes: the number of patients whose stool was improved 48 h after treatment, the number of patients recovered 72 h after treatment, stool times reduced 5 days after treatment, time of diarrhea stopping, and duration of illness less than 7 d. CONCLUSION Saccharomyces Boulardii is equivalent to Live Combined Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus and Enterococcus Powder and dioctahedral smectite in the effect on treating acute diarrhea, and no adverse reaction was observed.
