Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the chemical constituents and anti-bacterial activity of essential oil from compound Xueli. METHODS The essential oil was extracted from compound Xueli by steam distillation. The constituents from the essential oil were analyzed by GC-MS and the amount of the constituents was calculated by normalization method. The anti-bacterial tests of MIC and MBC for the essential oil were studied by using broth micro-dilution method. RESULTS Forty-three constituents were separated and identified, accounting for 85.21% of the total essential oil. The main constituents were palmitic acid (30.46%), 1H-cycloprope-azulen-7-ol (15.70%), naphthalene,1,2,3,4,4a,7-hexahydro-1,6-dimethyl-4-(1-methylethyl) (6.71%), caryohyllene oxide(6.13%), and 2,6-di- tert-butyl-p-cresol (5.93%). The essential oil showed some certain anti-bacterial activities against the tested strains including Staphylococcus aureus, Blastomyces albicans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Proteus hauseri. CONCLUSION The essential oil of compound Xueli contained various active constituents which showed certain anti-bacterial activity. The study will provide some scientific references for the further research of compound Xueli.
