Analysis on Pharmaceutical Economics of Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Injection for Treating Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus

    • OBJECTIVE To compare the economical effectiveness of continuous subcutaneous insulin injection(group A) and multiple daily injection(group B) for treating type-2 diabetes mellitus. METHODS Using cost-effectiveness analysis(CEA) on pharmaceutical economics to compare the cost effectiveness of the group A and group B. RESULTS The cost for group A and B were 616.6 and 512.2 Yuan, respectively. The total effective rates of controlling blood glucose were 96.6% and 91.2%, respectively. The cost-effectiveness ratios were 6.38 and 5.62, respectively. To increase one unit effective rate in group A need to raise the cost of 1 933.33 Yuan. CONCLUSION Group B has higher absolute economic efficiency for the treatment of type-2 diabetes. But group A has higher incremental cost effectiveness ratio than group B.
