Study of Sepia Ink Extract on Protection from Oxidative Damage of Cardiac Muscle and Brain Tissue in Mice

    • OBJECTIVE To explore the protective effects of sepia ink extract on oxidative damage of cardiac muscle and brain tissue in mice. METHODS Mice were randomly divided into 4 groups: control group, model group, low-dose group and high-dose group. Model animals were established with abdominal injection of cyclophosphamide. Contents of MDA, SOD, CAT and GSH-Px in cardiac muscle and brain tissue and contents of MDA, SOD in sera were determined. RESULTS Cyclophosphamide incoordinately changed the contents of MDA, SOD, CAT and GSH-Px in cardiac muscle, brain tissue and the contents of MDA, SOD in sera(P<0.01 or P<0.05). Compared with model group, sepia ink extract at suitable concentration could ameliorate significantly the changes of parameters induced by cyclophosphamide (P<0.01 or P<0.05), whereas, the high concentration of sepia ink extract had no obvious effect on the changes. CONCLUSION Sepia ink extract at certain concentration can protect cardiac muscle and brain tissue in mice from oxidative damage induced by cyclophosphamide.
