Effect of Resveratrol on Blood Rheology of Osteoarthritis in Rabbits

    • OBJECTIVE To study the effect of resveratrol on blood rheology in the serum of osteoarthritis(OA) in rabbits. METHODS 42 New Zealand white rabbits were randomly collected 12 as the normal control group and the sham group. Other rabbits are construct the osteoarthritis model rabbit above the models of doing by Hulth. After 8 weeks of operation, we take the model rabits into 5 groups: model groups, positive medicament control group(glucosamine sulphate, 35 mg·kg-1), the low dosage group(resveratrol, 30 mg·kg-1·d-1), the middle dosage group(resveratrol, 60 mg·kg-1·d-1), the high dosage group(resveratrol, 120 mg·kg-1·d-1). There are 6 rabbits in each groups. Then the normal control group, sham group and model groups were received stomach irritation daily with 10% CMC-Na (2 mL·kg-1) and the positive medicament control group was received stomach irritation daily with glucosamine sulphate (35 mg·kg-1). The resveratrol low, middle, high dosage group were received stomach irritation daily with resveratrol in different dosage for 6 weeks (30 mg·kg-1, 60 mg·kg-1, 120 mg·kg-1). After 6 weeks, blood samples(blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, opposite viscosity, index of red blood cell aggregation) were determined and the data was used to make statistical analysis. RESULTS The determination of hemorrheologic (blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, opposite viscosity, index of red blood cell aggregation) of the model group was higher than that of the normal group and the sham group (P<0.05) . The determination of hemorrheologic of the resveratrol groups and the positive control group were lower than that of the model group(P<0.05). The high, middle dosage group were lower than that of the low dosage group. However, there were no significant differences between the high, middle dosage group and the normal group, sham group (P>0.05). CONCLUSION Resveratrol could reduce the expression of blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, opposite viscosity, index of red blood cell aggregation in osteoarthritis model rabbits. Resveratrol might effectively improve the blood rheology condition of osteoarthritis, preventing and delaying the degenerative changes in the articular cartilage.
