Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the intestinal absorption of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) in rats using cell-permeable peptides R6 as absorption enhancer. METHODS The intestine absorption enhancing effect of R6 on LMWH was determined by the changes of blood coagulation time after intraduodenal administration to rats. Intestinal loops were used to identify and compare the main segments of intestines responsible for the absorption of LMWH using R6 as absorption enhancer. RESULTS Blood coagulation time was significantly prolonged after intraduodenal administration of LMWH to rats using R6 as absorption enhancer. R6 enhanced LMWH absorption in the regions of the duodenum, jejunum and ileum of rats and the absorption enhancing effect was the most noticeable in the ileum. CONCLUSION R6 had a significant intestinal absorption enhancing effect on LMWH.
