Abstract
Ferroptosis is a form of programmed cell death distinct from apoptosis, which is primarily caused by abnormal iron metabolism and lipid peroxidation, and regulated by multiple signaling pathways. Recent studies have found that ferroptosis plays an important role in the occurrence and development of various diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis(RA) and liver cancer. RA is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease characterized by immune abnormalities, release of inflammatory mediators, and cell death. Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) has unique therapeutic effects in the treatment of RA. Exploring the mechanisms of ferroptosis and the anti-RA mechanisms of TCM based on ferroptosis can provide new approaches and ideas for the treatment of RA, as well as scientific evidence for the development of new anti-RA drugs.
