Medicinal Value Research of Formononetin for Perimenopausal Women

Hormone replacement therapy(HRT) is used to treat perimenopausal women traditionally. However, prolonged use of HRT can increase the risk of vaginal bleeding, breast cancer and endometrial cancer. Therefore, the relatively safe and effective phytoestrogen has attracted more and more attention. Formononetin(FMN), as a naturally isoflavone phytoestrogens, has a variety of effects, such as anti-tumor, anti-oxidation, anti-inflammatory, regulating immunity, estrogen like and regulating intestinal flora. It can prevent osteoporosis, diabetes, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Formononetin is significant for women to improve the perimenopausal symptoms caused by ovarian dysfunction. This paper reviews the medicinal value of FMN in improving the related symptoms of perimenopausal women, so as to provide reference for the application of FMN.
