Research Progress of Role of Erythropoietin in the Protective Mechanism of Cerebral Ischemia and Related Traditional Chinese Medicine Intervention

    • Ischemic stroke is a disease that seriously endangers the physical and mental health of patients. In addition to traditional drug, tissue-type plasminogen activators, the therapeutic drugs for ischemic stroke have been actively explored. Existing evidence suggests that erythropoietin(EPO) protects against cerebral ischemia on multiple levels in a coordinated manner, such as reducing excitatory toxicity produced by glutamic acid, reversing vasospasm, promoting cerebrovascular neovascularization, reducing apoptosis and inflammation, etc. Therefore, this paper summarizes the role and mechanism of several Chinese medicine that can promote EPO generation in cerebral ischemia, so as to provide reference for the drug treatment of ischemic stroke.
