Pharmacognostical Study on Bupleurum Longicaule Var. Franchetii

OBJECTIVE To make pharmacognostical study on the umbelliferae Bupleurum longicaule var. Franchetii. METHODS In this study, the identification characteristics of Bupleurum longicaule var. Franchetii were studied by primary appraisement, medicinal material identification and microscopical identification. In addition, TLC combined with HPLC were adopted to identify its active ingredients qualitatively and quantitatively. RESULTS The characteristics of medicinal properties, the microscopic characteristics of the powder and the transverse section of radix and rhizoma were all obvious, and the result of TLC was good. The effective active components of saikosaponin a and saikosaponin d had high content. CONCLUSION This study can provide reference for the identification, quality evaluation, quality standard formulation and further development and utilization of Bupleurum longicaule var. Franchetii.
