Study on the Effect of Bushen Huoxue Decoction Combined with Donepezil Hydrochloride on Cognitive Function and Hemorheology in Vascular Dementia

OBJECTIVE To study the effect of Bushenhuoxuefang combined with donepezil hydrochloride on cognitive function and hemorheology in patients with vascular dementia. METHODS Ninety two patients with vascular dementia were selected, which were randomly divided into study group and control group, 46 cases each group. The control group received routine treatment and oral treatment with donepezil hydrochloride. The study group was given Bushen Huoxue Decoction on the basis of the control group. Activities of daily living (ADL) score, hastgawa dementia scale (HDS) score, mini-mental state examination (MMSE) score, hemorheology index levels (hematocrit, plasma viscosity, whole blood low-cut reduction viscosity and high-cut reduction viscosity), the level of inflammatory factors, TCM symptoms scores and treatment efficiency were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. RESULTS After treatment, the HDS, MMSE and ADL scores of study group were significantly better than those of control group (P<0.01); hemorheology index and inflammatory factor levels were significantly more improved than those of control group (P<0.01); the TCM symptoms improved significantly better than those of control group (P<0.05); the efficiency of study group was as high as 93.48%, the control group was 73.91%, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). CONCLUSION Patients with vascular dementia who received Bushenhuoxuefang combined with donepezil hydrochloride was more conducive to improving the HDS, MMSE and ADL scores, improving the TCM symptoms and cognitive function, relieving the inflammatory reactions, reducing hemorheology indexes, and improving treatment effects.
