Research Progress on Quality Evaluation of Gelatin Drugs

As common tonic medicine in traditional Chinese medicine, Asini Corii Colla, Cervil Cornus Colla, Testudinis Carapacis et Plastri Colla and other gelatin drugs have been used to norish yin and supplement blood. But in recent years, fake and inferior products have been disrupting the stability of the consumer market and attracting the attention of the pharmaceutical industry. Because the character identification is more affected by subjective factors, the results have greater errors. Over the past decade, electrophoresis, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and other methods have been used in the identification of gelatin drugs, and the specificity enhancement of the identification result of gelatin drugs. To provide references for controlling and improving the quality of gelatin drugs, this comprehensive summarize the related reports of gelatin drugs which are received in Chinese Pharmacopoeia and Ministerial standards, and review the researches into the chemical constituent, character identification and quality control.
