Abstract
OBJECTIVE Study on the feasibility of using Chorioallantoic Membrane Vascular Assay to evaluate eye irritation of cosmetics, and evaluating 14 kinds of cosmetics by improved method. METHODS Establish a standard method on eye irritation using CAMVA of cosmetics by controlling exposure time and sample concentration, and improving the evaluation system. RESULTS Skin care products are non-irritating. There was a positive correlation between exposure time, sample concentration and the stimulation intensity of hair dyes and after using rinse-off cosmetics. At 3% concentration, the best exposure time is 20min for after using rinse-off cosmetics, the classification consistency of CAMVA and Draize test was 90% (9/10), and 5min for hair dyes, the classification consistency of CAMVA and Draize test was 100%(2/2). Irritation can be graded by using the improved evaluation system, the classification consistency of CAMVA and Draize test of after using rinse-off cosmetics was 80% (8/10), and the classification consistency of CAMVA and Draize test of hair dyes was 50%(1/2). CONCLUSION CAMVA method can be applied to predict eye irritation of cosmetics, but the experimental conditions and evaluation system need to be further refined.
