Clinical observation on Cervical Type of Cervical Spondylosis Treated by Decoction of notopterygium for Rheumatism Combined with Traditional Acupuncture

    • Objective To observe the clinical efficacy on cervical type of cervical spondylosis treated by decoction of notopterygium for rheumatism combined with traditional acupuncture. Methods The 70 patients were randomly divided into observation group and control group(n=35). In observation group, decoction of notopterygium for rheumatism combined with traditional acupuncture was adopted. While in control group, only traditional acupuncture was used. After treatments for 4 weeks, the visual analogue scale (VAS), cervical range of motion (CROM) and neck disability index (NDI) were adopted for comparison before and after treatments in two groups and the efficacy was also assessed. Results Compared with those before treatment, the VAS and NDI of both groups decreased but CROM increased after treatments(P<0.05). After treatment, the VAS of patients in observation group was lower than that in control group; while the CROM was higher(P<0.05). The curative and remarkably effective rate was 60.00% and the total effective rate was 94.29% in observation group, which were superior to 34.29% and 77.14% in control group respectively (P<0.05). Conclusion The decoction of notopterygium for rheumatism combined with traditional acupuncture could treat cervical type of cervical spondylosis well, could effectively relieve pain and cervical range of motion in such patients.
