Anti-inflammatory Effect of Saffower Yellower on Adjuvant Arthritis Rats

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of the anti-inflammatory effect of saffower yellower on adjuvant arthritis rats. METHODS Rats model of adjuvant arthritis(AA) was induced by Freund's complete adjuvant(FCA). Rats were divided into control group, model group, 100, 50, 25 mg·kg^-1 saffower yellower groups, 10 rats each group. The swelling of the hind paw was measured by toe circumference method. The level and protein expression of IL-1β and TNF-α was measured by elisa and western blot, respectively. RESULTS Compared with model group, the swelling of the hind paw, the level and protein expression of IL-1β and TNF-α was decreased significantly(p<0.01 or p<0.05) in saffower yellower groups. CONCLUSION saffower yellower can relieve arthritis in AA rats and the mechanism is relatived with decreased the expression of IL-1β and TNF-α.
