Effect of Atomizing Inhalation of Tongding Mixture on IL-6 and NSE in Patients with Stroke Coma

    • OBJECTIVE To observe the effect of atomizing inhalation of Tongding mixture on patients with stroke coma and its effect on interleukin-6(IL-6) and nerve-specific enolase(NSE). METHODS Fifty-two patients with stroke were randomly divided into treatment group and control group. The control group were treated with routine western medicine. The treatment group was treated with atomization inhalation of traditional Chinese medicine Tongding mixture based on routine western medicine. Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), National Institutes of Health Neurological Deficits (NIHSS), and serum IL-6 and NSE levels were measured at admission, on 3rd, 7th and 14th day after treatment. RESULTS After treatment, GCS score, NIHSS score improved, IL-6 and NSE values decreased and there was significant difference of IL-6 and NSE between control group and treatment group(P<0.05). CONCLUSION The combination of routine western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine inhalation, can effectively reduce the degree of coma in stroke patients, and can significantly reduce the serum IL-6, NSE content, promote brain injury and improve the prognosis.
