Comparison of Binder in Roller Compaction

    • OBJECTIVE Compare the performance of different binder in roller compaction. METHODS Metformin hydrochloride and acetaminophen were chosen as model drugs in this study, tablets were prepared by roller compaction with different binder, including hydroxypropyl cellulose, copovidone, hypromellose, povidone and ethyl cellulose. Granules density and particle size distribution, tablet hardness, friability and dissolution were tested. RESULTS Hydroxypropyl cellulose was the best binder for both metformin hydrochloride and acetaminophen tablets prepared by roller compaction, copovidone was also very good dry binder. CONCLUSION HPC is the optimal binder in this study for roller compaction and tableting process.
